Snow in Thimphu!

Snow in Thimphu is rare enough that the government calls a holiday for the first snowfall of a year. Last Wedsnesday, we awoke to swirls of the white stuff, and by mid-morning, government workers were headed home. That day, I was attending a Youth and Environment workshop - a program organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to enrich students during their two month winter break. Ironically, the 80 or so students in attendance were not out enjoying the environment, and throwing snowballs as everyone else in Thimphu seemed to be doing, but were inside a curtained room watching Power Point slides about waste management and ozone depletion. Their (and my) reward for a day of patient listening was a walk home in a winter wonderland.
