Paro Tshechu

As with all adventures with the Bionic Woman (the indestructible woman who never sleeps!), this one began before dawn. We dressed in our finest kiras, and hopped in the car with the Great Dane to attend Paro Tshechu.

We arose at 3am for the hour and a half drive to Paro, so that we could view the thongdrel, an enormous hand-stitched silk mural, which offers liberation on sight, before dawn.

The food that had been offered to Guru Rimpoche in front of the thongdrel was later distributed to the monks, and a few other lucky recipients.

The lama blessed local officials with white kata scarves.

Local women in spectacularly embroidered kiras performed traditional songs and dances.

Local men perform traditional dances.

At sunrise, as the thongdrel is folded and stored for another year. Guru Rimpoche beams his last blessings on the crowd.
