Haa!

No, not the exclamation, the dzongkhag.

Haa is the western-most district of Bhutan, bordering on Tibet and India, and where I'm headed tomorrow. My roommate, the Bionic Woman, has some friends there she thinks I should talk with about religious beliefs and ecology. The people of Haa are reputed to believe in deities of the landscape, as is the case in eastern Bhutan. At the same time, conventional wisdom says deity beliefs are limited to the east, so it will be interesting to see what folks have to say.

Fortuitously, we are able to borrow the car of some Danish friends who are going to Bangkok for the weekend. We'll drop the Danes off at the airport in Paro (west of Thimphu), and then continue west to Haa, until Monday, when we return to Paro to pick up the Danes. Perfect!
