How to put a lady researcher in her place

1. Tell her that you are very busy and would prefer to receive questions by email, even though she's sitting right in front of you.

2. After she introduces herself, insist on calling her a diminutive version of her name.

3. Don't answer any questions directly, other than to point out how irrelevant they are. Obfuscate, befuddle, pontificate.

4. Obsessively review photos on your computer to avoid looking at her.

5. Pause on a photo from a garbage cleanup of a sanitary pad, and begin discussing how 'ladies need to learn to clean these things up, it's not men's responsibility to clean these things up.'

6. Warmly shake her hand at the end of the interview, offering to help her in 'any way [you] can, any way at all, day or night, day or night, do not hesitate to call, day or night.'

Wait. I thought you were only going to a conference and present your findings. Why are you interviewing more people. If you wanted to talk to an Asian guy, just call me already. Sheesh.

Ah, there's always this problem of 'sample size.' Often 1 is not considered a large enough group. And the issue of 'speaking for' others. Academic formalities....
